Hotel digital profiles: the most common inconsistencies
Google, Booking.com, Tripadvisor and the hotel's own website often show different information about the same property. Here is what tends to be inconsistent and why it undermines trust.

AI illustration
A guest researching a hotel looks beyond its website. They compare the Google profile, OTA listing, Tripadvisor reviews, Instagram and maybe an article in a travel guide. When this information is not harmonised, the loss of trust begins before the guest even opens the booking engine.
Why profile consistency affects bookings
Inconsistent information raises doubts. A guest who sees a pool on the website and doesn’t see that information on Google’s profile is wondering if the pool is really available. A guest who sees the price of 120 € on OTA, and 145 € on the website, assumes that the direct channel is more expensive and does not check the best rate guarantee.
Different addresses, facilities or terms across profiles may confuse the guest. Record specific differences and correct them in official sources; without data for your hotel, it is not justified to attribute to them a certain percentage of lost bookings.
The most common inconsistencies
Photos
The hotel publishes a new season of photographs on the website, but Google Business profile and OTA listing still show old photos from 2023. The guest who saw the new image on Instagram comes to an outdated profile and loses interest.
Check: compare the hero photo on the website, Google profile and main OTA listing.
Descriptions and facilities
The website mentions a new spa, but the Booking.com profile has no spa in the amenities. Google profile does not mention the free parking offered by the hotel. A guest looking for a spa stay does not find the hotel in a filtered search.
Prices and offers
Direct price on the website, OTA price and price on Google Hotel Ads are not matched. Rate plans available on one channel are not visible on another. Packages (e.g. "Wellness weekend") exist only in PMS, but are not on the website.
NAP data (Name, Address, Phone)
Different phone number format, old address after rebranding, different hotel name on different platforms. This also affects the local SEO.
Opening hours and seasonality
Google's profile shows the opening hours of the reception, but not the seasonal closure of a restaurant or spa. A guest arrives in April to find the spa closed - and a negative review follows.
How to audit consistency
Step 1: List the profiles
Specify all active digital profiles:
- The hotel website
- Google Business Profile
- Booking.com / Expedia / other OTAs
- Tripadvisor
- Instagram / Facebook
- Tourism boards and directories
Step 2: Compare key elements
For each profile, check:
| Element | Website | OTA | Consistent? | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel name | ||||
| Address | ||||
| Phone | ||||
| Hero photograph | ||||
| Key facilities | ||||
| Price (same date) |
Step 3: Define the source of truth
- Prices and offers - → PMS / revenue management
- Operational information - → reception
- Photographs and descriptions - → marketing
- Reviews - → guest relations
Step 4: Establish an update process
Any change of offer should have a checklist: which profiles are updated, who is responsible, deadline. Without a process, consistency lasts until the next change.
Operational rhythm
- Before the season - full revision of all profiles
- Offer changes - update in 48 hours
- Quarterly - a quick NAP and photograph check
- After rebranding - a priority consistency project
Include the status of digital profiles in management reporting as an operational KPI.
Connection with the booking experience
The digital profiles are not separate from the booking funnel. A guest coming from Google profiles expects the same experience on the website and in the booking engine. Hotel website and booking UX should reflect what the profiles promise.
For a structured booking journey checklist, use the booking engine checklist.
Conclusion
Consistency across digital profiles is an operational discipline that directly affects guest trust and the direct channel conversion rate, beyond visual presentation. A hotel that invests in photos and descriptions, but does not keep them consistent across all platforms, loses its return on investment.
To review your hotel's digital profiles, request hotel audit.

Frequently asked questions
How often should digital profiles be checked?
At least once a quarter and always before the season. After any change to offers, prices, photographs or facilities such as the spa, restaurant or parking, update all profiles within 48 hours.
Which profile takes priority if information differs?
The hotel's own website and booking engine are the source of truth for prices and offers. Reception/PMS provides the source of truth for operational information such as the address, telephone and opening hours. Other profiles should follow those sources.
