Google Hotel Ads for independent hotels

Google Hotel Ads shows a hotel's price and availability on Google. It is useful when the click can finish as a booking on the hotel's own site.

Short answer

Google Hotel Ads makes sense for a hotel when the price and availability on Google lead to a booking on the hotel's own website. The paid model can be a cost per click or a commission on the stay, and free booking links are a different product.

  • A free booking link is not a Google media charge.
  • CPC and commission use different bases.
  • The booking engine partner has to confirm the connection.

Google Hotel Ads makes sense for a hotel when the price and availability on Google lead to a booking on the hotel's own website. The paid model can be a cost per click or a commission on the stay, and free booking links are a different product.

The European Hotel Distribution Study 2026 (reference year 2025) finds that 58% of hotels in the sample are connected to a metasearch platform, and 83% of those connected hotels use Google Hotel Ads.

Three models, one stay

Google separates paid Hotel Ads from free booking links. A free link can sit beside an ad, and its place is not bought with a bid. A click on it is not a Google media fee. The integration partner can still charge its own fee.

The guide to getting Hotel Ads running distinguishes a direct connection from work through a connectivity partner. For most independent hotels that partner is the booking engine.

In our check of 84 Croatian hotels, 26 of 48 hotels with rates on Google Hotels showed no own rate, only intermediaries. For them the first step is a free booking link, not an ad. Details are in the direct booking study.

An example that adds up

Example: one hotel, one month, four stayed bookings with an average stay value of EUR 400.

LinePay per click15% commission
Clicks200not the billing base
Cost per clickEUR 0.80not the billing base
Media200 x 0.80 = EUR 160EUR 0 in this row
Value of 4 staysEUR 1,600EUR 1,600
Channel costEUR 16015% x 1,600 = EUR 240
Per stayed booking160 / 4 = EUR 40240 / 4 = EUR 60

Same four stays. Only the billing rule changes. If the contract commission is not 15%, replace the percentage and redo the last row. A free booking link is EUR 0 of Google media in this table. Do not add it to the CPC as if it were the same click.

Google's price accuracy policy expects the amount on the landing page to match the amount shown for the selected stay, including the taxes and fees the guest sees.

When to stop before the budget

If the guest gets a different amount after the click, loses the dates or cannot finish on a phone, write that down with the provider first. A larger budget does not repair the booking path. Use the booking engine checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Are Google Hotel Ads and free booking links the same?

No. Google describes free booking links as a placement that can appear with ads. A click on a free link is not a charge from Google. The partner who sends the rates may have its own fee.

What do Google Hotel Ads cost?

Google does not publish one price for every hotel. On a click model the cost is clicks times CPC. On a commission model the cost is a share of the stay value. The example is in the table.

Can an independent hotel join without building its own feed?

Usually yes, through the booking engine partner. Ask the provider whether rates are already connected, what the connection includes and where you can see its status.

What if the guest sees a different price on the website?

Do not raise the budget. Google's price accuracy policy expects the amount on the landing page to match the amount shown for the selected stay. Align price, taxes and conditions first.
